Pete Seeger’s The Incompleat Folk Singer

With Mark Hellman

TIF12

FUNDRAISER FOR SOOKE FOLK MUSIC SOCIETY! Mark Hellman is delighted to
bring his rollicking tribute to legendary folksinger, social activist,
and environmentalist, Pete Seeger, to Sooke on Saturday, October 5, as
he kicks off a fall tour that will end up in New York City in November.
This ‘musical memoir’ is told entirely in Seeger’s own words (from his
1972 autobiography) and features 29 favourite songs from his early years
(1935-70), inviting the audience to sing along at every turn. Suitable
for audiences 8 – 98. Originally produced by the Other Guys Theatre Co.
in 2015. This special performance is a fundraiser for the Society, which
will allow us to support a variety of local charitable causes.

Mark Hellman (CFM, CAEA) has been a professional actor, musician,
director, teacher and independent producer since 1981. He has worked
with Kaleidoscope Theatre (Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane), Theatre
SKAM (7eventy 7even, Smalltown, a Pickup Musical), the Belfry (The Life
Inside, Ethan Claymore), as well as collaborating with the Other Guys on
several projects (Moodyville Tales, Good Timber, Flotsam & Jetsam)
combining live music, storytelling, theatre, and audience
participation.  He recently had the pleasure of singing some of Pete’s
songs with Denis Donnelly’s ‘Wavelengths Community Choir’ at the Mary
Winspear Centre in Sidney.

…Hellman shines….Seeger fans and folk music die-hards will love the
songs….I can’t remember a play that had me singing along so much. –
Kathleen Oliver, GEORGIA STRAIGHT

…a beacon on the horizon that calls out to our better selves to respond,
to act….this show, an old-style hootenanny, will get you humming and
singing and clapping and tearing-up at just the right times: you’ll
thank yourself for taking it in. – Baird Blackstone, BrokenLegReviews(blog)
