The Deadbeat Deacons
September 18 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The band brings a nucleus of creativity in Gary Brewer, years of teaching music brings an ear for painting the right sound, and mood. Mike Philip brings a depth of deep roots in the Victoria music scene. Sounds of the Wanted from the 60’s still reverberate in the walls of what used to be The Purple Onion, and Club Tango. And lastly laying down the stix, for the Deadbeat Deacons is Ron Cole, who brings 40+ years of playing drums and percussion in a diverse genre of music.
The band ain’t about fame, or money…we still remember playing for the bar bill, and gas money. Now it’s more about just giving back. It’s Bono that said, ” God is in the debris of wasted opportunity and lives, and God is with us, if we are with…them. So in the biggest sense, we are about taking soul lifting music into the broken spaces in the neighborhood around us…pubs, inner city soup kitchens, prisons, fundraisers just to help folks out anyway we can.
Genre? You can’t really back us into a corner…we mix it up blues, jazz and roots both acoustic and electric. So come back, and check on us as we sit around the campfire of creativity cookin’ up a whole new sound.
